DISTANT LEARNING MODE
Machakos Institute of Technology offers courses through the Distant Learning Programme mode. The Distance Learning Programme mode specifically addresses the needs of those, for one reason or another, who cannot attend classes in Nairobi or at Machakos campuses as regular students, part- time or Saturday classes. The overall aim is to increase access to education and competencies through the most convenient method for each individual student. This mode of study also creates high -tech jobs and opens new frontiers and markets for the students to increase their value as salaried employees or self-employed.
Distant Learning mode is preferred by:
- Learners living away from the training centers in Nairobi and Machakos;
- Learners who are physically challenged and the elderly;
- Employees with irregular working hours;
- Those with family duties especially parents with young children at home;
- Those who want to train at their own pace without deadlines and pressure;
- Those preferring training when it is most needed”, Just –in –time training”
- Those with limited resources for transport.

The world has become a “global village” because of faster communication which has revolutionized lives significantly. Students are now able to get into a training course and remain in touch with their supervisors all the time through telephone, e-mail and internet. They can exchange ideas with their lecturers at any time as if they were just a short distance apart.
Cost
The overall cost for training is greatly reduced for students on Distant Learning Programme. Machakos Institute has invested in new technology in order to reduce the overall cost of training for students wishing to pursue courses with us.
Time
Students can choose their convenient time to complete their assignments. The Distant Learning Programme (DLP) enables students to have flexible hours which make them complete other chores and study at the same time. It gives them practical lessons on time management and the importance of allocating time in the most positive manner.
