DMFC 3900: DIPLOMA IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY COUNSELLING

 

This is a one and half year course. By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:

• Acquire knowledge and skills to be able to counsel using the systemic approach i.e. couple and family counseling
• Acquire knowledge on family psychology and family dynamics
• Identify and be able to counsel couples and families during challenging periods e.g. divorce, separation, terminal illness, death etc
• Explain the different parenting styles and how they influence the family members
• Conduct sex therapy
• Generate new knowledge by conducting a research study in an area of couple and family counseling
• Offer guidance and counseling services to couples and families in different settings e.g. schools, churches, community, private practice etc
• Understand the ethical considerations in counseling and incorporate them in their practice.

DMFC 3917: Separation and divorce counselling

DMFC 3918: Terminal illness, death and dying

DMFC 3919: Project with a focus on a marriage or family

DMFC 3920: Practicum with a focus on a marriage or family

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum qualifications are KCSE C- or KCE Div. 2 or the equivalent Certificate in Community development, Social development, Social work, Community Health, Counseling and Psychology. Course open to Beginners, Development workers, Social workers, Project managers and Fresh students
