DMHC 3600: DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL AND HEALTH COUNSELING

 

This is a one and half year course. By the end of the course learners should be able to;

• Relate different issues in the medical field to counseling e.g. pharmacology, medical conditions, palliative care etc.
• Identify the different aspects of health and community psychology
• Identify and work with patients/ clients with abnormal behavior for behavior modification
• Understand the ethical considerations in counseling and incorporate them in their practice
• Generate new knowledge by conducting research study in an area of interest related to the medical set-up
• Offer guidance and counseling services to patients e.g. in- patients, out-patients, and in home (home- based counselling)

DMHC 3619: Project in clinical set up

DMHC 3620: Practicum in a clinical set up

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications are KCSE C- or KCE Div. 2 or the equivalent Certificate in Community development, Social development, Social work, Community Health, Counseling and Psychology. Course open to Beginners, Development workers, Social workers, Project managers and Fresh students
